課程概述 |
The course is designed to focus on British drama in the wake of the WWII, with a brief glance back at the pre-war play of Noel Coward's Private Lives, to set the stage for American playwright Chris Durang's appropriation in Actor's Nightmare. The dramas chosen cover a diverse range of dramatists such as Beckett, Pinter, Stoppard, Shaffer, and female playwrights such as Pam Gems and Edna O'Brien, with a particular concentration on comedies and biographies. |

課程目標 |
The course aims to help students to have a firm and comprehensive grasp of the development of modern British dramas by offering a survey of the major plays of the post-WWII British theatre, with a dual focus n on comedies and biographies. Students are expected to attain sufficient knowledge of both text and context of the plays, including the biographies of the playwrights and the subjects, as well as the history of British drama over the past century. |

Preview all texts on the syllabus, cultive a comprehensive knowledge of the postwar British theatrical scene and dramatic literature, attend the graduation performance which features both plays by Durang and Stoppard on the syllabus. |
